International Removals from Poland

Every year tens of thousands of people leave Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Poznań, Gdańsk and dozens of smaller towns for the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Scandinavia and destinations far beyond Europe — and just as many make the return journey home. Flyto Relocation has been coordinating international removals across Europe since 2018, and Poland falls squarely within our Central-European operating area. Whether you are shipping a studio flat’s worth of belongings to Berlin or a full four-bedroom household to Canada, we plan the route, the paperwork and the timeline as one job rather than a series of disconnected bookings.

Who we move from Poland

Three groups make up the bulk of our Polish outbound work, and each has a different set of priorities.

  • Returning and departing diaspora. Poland has one of the largest and most mobile expatriate populations in Europe. Moves to and from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Norway and Sweden run constantly in both directions, often as part-loads rather than full trucks.
  • Professionals on assignment. Engineers, IT specialists, medical staff and finance professionals relocating on a fixed start date, usually with a tight window and an employer budget behind them.
  • Families making a permanent move. Full households with furniture, appliances, bicycles and garden equipment — the moves where planning, insurance and storage matter most.

How the process works

We keep the sequence deliberately simple, because a removal that spans two or more countries has enough moving parts already.

  • Survey and inventory. You tell us what is moving, room by room. For larger households a video survey gives a far more accurate volume estimate than a guessed cubic-metre figure — and volume is the single biggest driver of your price.
  • Quotation and mode selection. We propose the transport method that fits your destination and deadline — road groupage, a dedicated vehicle, sea container or air freight — with the trade-offs stated plainly.
  • Packing and collection. Full-pack, fragile-only or self-pack, collected from your Polish address on an agreed date.
  • Transit and customs. Within the EU there are no formalities. Outside it, we prepare the export and import documentation before your goods leave.
  • Delivery and placement. Delivery to your new address, with unpacking available where the destination service level allows.

Transport modes by destination

Poland’s road links westward are among the best in Europe, which is why most moves from Poland to other EU countries travel by road. Groupage — where your consignment shares a vehicle with other households on the same corridor — is the most cost-effective option for anything under roughly a third of a truck. A dedicated vehicle costs more but gives you a fixed collection and delivery date, which matters when you are handing back keys or starting a job on a set day.

For destinations outside Europe, sea freight is the default. Gdańsk and Gdynia are major Baltic deep-sea ports with direct and transhipment services to North America, the Middle East, Asia and Australasia, and goods from anywhere in Poland can be trucked to the quayside economically. Depending on volume and sailing schedules we may also route through a northern European hub port such as Hamburg, Bremerhaven or Rotterdam where that gives a shorter overall transit. Smaller consignments travel as shared-container groupage; full households usually justify a 20ft or 40ft container of their own. Air freight remains the option for urgent or high-value consignments — fast, but priced by chargeable weight, so it suits equipment and essentials rather than furniture.

EU versus overseas at a glance

Poland to another EU country Poland to a non-EU destination
Usual transport Road: groupage or dedicated vehicle Sea container via Gdańsk/Gdynia or a northern hub port; air freight for urgent loads
Customs None — single market, free movement of goods Export declaration in the EU plus import clearance and, in most countries, a transfer-of-residence relief application
Typical door-to-door timeline Around 3–10 days for a dedicated vehicle; roughly 1–3 weeks for groupage Roughly 5–12 weeks by sea depending on lane and clearance; days rather than weeks by air

Customs: the EU distinction that changes everything

Poland has been an EU member since 2004, and that single fact removes most of the friction from intra-European moves. Sending household goods from Kraków to Munich, Rotterdam, Dublin or Stockholm involves no customs declaration, no duty and no inventory valuation — the goods move within the single market exactly as they would within Poland.

Moving outside the EU is a different exercise. The United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Australia, the UAE and every other non-EU destination require an export declaration on the Polish side and a formal import clearance on arrival. Most offer duty relief for used personal effects under a transfer-of-residence scheme, but the relief is conditional: typically you must have owned and used the goods for a minimum period, be genuinely transferring your residence, and apply within a set window of your arrival. A detailed valued inventory is mandatory, and restricted categories — alcohol, firearms, plants, certain foodstuffs and, in some countries, used vehicles — carry their own rules. We prepare and check this documentation before departure: a paperwork error found at the destination port is the most expensive kind of delay there is.

What drives the cost

We do not publish fixed prices, because an honest figure depends on variables we can confirm only once we know your inventory and both addresses. The factors that move the number are:

  • Volume. Cubic metres, not weight, for road and sea moves. A one-bedroom flat might be 15–20 m³; a family house 40–70 m³ or more.
  • Distance and lane density. Busy corridors such as Poland to Germany, the Netherlands or the UK carry more groupage traffic and therefore better rates than thin, remote lanes.
  • Service level. Full packing adds cost but reduces damage risk and your own workload considerably.
  • Access at both ends. Upper floors without a lift, narrow city-centre streets, parking permits and long carry distances all add labour or equipment.
  • Timing. Late June to early September and month-ends are peak across Europe; flexible off-season dates genuinely save money.
  • Extras. Storage, insurance cover level, dismantling and reassembly, and customs handling on non-EU lanes.

As a rough market orientation only: small European part-loads commonly fall in the low four figures in euros, full-household European moves considerably higher, and overseas container shipments higher again. Treat any number you see online — including this one — as an indication, not a quote.

Insurance and storage

Standard carrier liability under international transport conventions is calculated by weight and falls far below the replacement value of most households. We therefore recommend all-risk marine or transit insurance based on a valued inventory you prepare yourself, so a claim is settled on what your possessions are actually worth. Cover for owner-packed cartons is usually more limited than for professionally packed goods — worth weighing up when choosing your service level.

Timing rarely aligns perfectly. If your Polish property completes before your new home is ready, we arrange secure interim storage at origin or destination, billed monthly, with your inventory kept intact between legs.

Hub coordination and honest partnering

Flyto operates its own hubs across Northern, Central and Southern Europe, which is what allows us to consolidate loads, hold goods between legs and keep European moves on a predictable schedule rather than at the mercy of a single subcontractor. Poland sits within that Central-European operating area, so Polish collections are planned into those hub schedules directly.

For overseas destinations and specialist local work we use vetted partner agents, chosen and monitored on performance rather than price alone. We are straightforward about which parts of your move we handle ourselves and which we place with a partner — you always have one point of contact at Flyto and one chain of accountability.
