What should I know before moving to France?
France is a founding EU member (1957) and joined Schengen on 26 March 1995. Standard VAT (TVA) is 20%. Public health insurance is run by CPAM (Assurance Maladie). Major banks: BNP Paribas, Société Générale, Crédit Agricole. Many newcomers arrive for roles in Paris, Lyon, Marseille or Toulouse — from finance and aerospace to tech and research.
How does a move from France to another country usually work?
Moves leaving France involve a detailed inventory, route planning, and — for non-EU destinations (UK, Switzerland, USA, Canada) — a T1 transit document plus an import declaration at destination. EU moves need no customs forms. For permanent relocations, we also help with the DGFiP (Direction Générale des Finances Publiques) notification of departure.
What does an international relocation involving France typically include?
Whether your move begins or ends in France, we take care of packing, loading, logistics planning, customs forms and final unloading — keeping the entire process organised and stress-free.
What are the most common relocation destinations from France?
Popular routes include France–Germany, France–Belgium, France–Spain, France–Netherlands and France–Switzerland. Long-distance moves often go to Canada, the USA and the UK.
How long do international moves to or from France take?
European road moves: 2–7 days. Examples: Paris → Brussels ~4h truck, Paris → Berlin 1–2 days, Lyon → Madrid 2 days, Marseille → Milan 1 day. Overseas: 3–6 weeks by sea container, 7–10 days by air freight for urgent loads.
Do I need customs documentation when relocating internationally?
EU-to-EU moves don’t need customs forms. Non-EU destinations (UK, Switzerland, Norway, USA, Canada) need a T1 transit document, a detailed inventory, and an import declaration at destination. For personal-effects duty relief, proof of residence change is required.
Can I bring my belongings to France duty-free?
From any EU country: yes, free movement applies. From outside the EU: personal household goods imported within 12 months of changing residence to France are duty-free under EU Regulation 1186/2009, provided you have owned them for at least 6 months and they are for personal use.
Are there restricted items when entering France?
Yes. France restricts weapons, alcohol, food, certain plants and specific electronics. We guide you through what is allowed and what may need special permissions.
Do I need to register when moving to France?
EU/EEA citizens can move freely but should register at their local mairie for civic services. Non-EU citizens need a long-stay visa, then validate it via OFII (Office français de l’immigration et de l’intégration) and apply for a residence card at the local préfecture / sous-préfecture — see service-public.fr. We prepare the documents and book appointments.
Does Flyto offer local moves inside France?
Yes. Through our partner network, we offer assistance with local moves in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Nice and smaller towns.
Do you deliver everywhere in France, including rural areas?
Absolutely. We provide nationwide delivery — from major cities to mountain regions, coastal areas and small rural villages.
Should I consider additional moving insurance?
For high-value or delicate belongings, extra insurance is recommended. We offer several options to match your needs.
