What should I know before moving to the Czech Republic?
The Czech Republic joined the EU in May 2004 and Schengen in December 2007 — no border checks on the road from Germany, Austria, Slovakia or Poland. Cost of living is moderate (Prague is the priciest; Brno and Ostrava run 20–30% lower). Public health insurance is mandatory — most expats use VZP (Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna). The standard VAT rate is 21%. Many relocate for IT, engineering or manufacturing roles.
How does a move from the Czech Republic to another country normally work?
Moves leaving Czechia involve a detailed inventory, route planning, and — for non-EU destinations like the UK, Switzerland, USA or Canada — a T1 transit document plus an import declaration at destination. EU moves need no customs forms. We prepare everything and coordinate pickup and final delivery.
What does an international relocation involving the Czech Republic include?

What are the most common relocation routes from the Czech Republic?
Common routes include Czechia ↔ Germany, Czechia ↔ Austria, Czechia ↔ Netherlands, Czechia ↔ Poland and Czechia ↔ France. UK moves now require post-Brexit customs handling; we manage the paperwork. Long-haul: USA, Canada and Switzerland.
How long do international moves to or from the Czech Republic take?
European road moves: 2–6 days. Examples: Prague → Berlin ~1 day, Prague → Vienna same-day, Prague → Helsinki 4–5 days. Overseas: 3–6 weeks by sea container, 7–10 days by air freight for urgent partial loads.
Do I need customs paperwork for an international move?
EU-to-EU moves don’t need customs forms — free movement of goods. Non-EU destinations (UK, Switzerland, Norway, USA, Canada) need a T1 transit document, a detailed English-language inventory and a customs import declaration at destination. For personal-effects duty relief, proof of residence change is also required. We prepare all of these.
Can I bring my belongings to the Czech Republic duty-free?
From any EU country: yes, free movement applies. From outside the EU: personal household goods imported within 12 months of changing residence to Czechia are duty-free under EU Regulation 1186/2009, provided you have owned them for at least 6 months and they are for personal use (not for sale). We compile the supporting documents (proof of prior residence, inventory, change-of-residence statement).
Are there restricted items when entering the Czech Republic?
Yes. Firearms require a separate permit from the Czech police (Policie ČR). From outside the EU, more than 10 litres of spirits or 90 litres of wine per adult is dutiable. Fresh meat and dairy from non-EU origins, ivory, and certain plants without a phytosanitary certificate are restricted. We review your inventory before transit.
Do I need to register after moving to the Czech Republic?
Yes. EU citizens must report their stay to the Cizinecká policie (Foreign Police) within 30 days of arrival. Non-EU residence permit holders must report within 3 working days of arrival. The address registration is also recorded with the local municipal office. We prepare the documents and can book the appointment.
