How does an international move involving the UK usually work?
The UK left the EU on 31 January 2020 and the Single Market on 31 December 2020, so every move between the UK and the EU now needs a T1 transit document, a detailed packing list and a customs declaration at destination. We plan the route, pack and label your belongings, file the paperwork with HMRC and EU customs, then coordinate door-to-door delivery anywhere in the UK or Europe.
Do I need customs documents when moving to or from the UK?
Yes. Since the UK left the EU customs union on 31 December 2020, every move between the UK and the EU needs a T1 transit document, a detailed English-language inventory and an import declaration at destination. We prepare the paperwork, file with HMRC for export and with the destination country’s customs authority for import.
How long does a move to or from the UK take?
European road moves typically take 3–7 days plus customs clearance at the channel crossing (Dover–Calais or Eurotunnel). Examples: London → Paris 2–3 days, London → Berlin 4–5 days, London → Madrid 5–7 days. Overseas: 4–8 weeks by sea container (US, Australia), 7–10 days by air for urgent shipments.
What are the most popular moving routes involving the UK?
Common European routes: UK–France, UK–Germany, UK–Spain, UK–Ireland (no customs paperwork needed via the Common Travel Area) and UK–Netherlands. Frequent overseas relocations: UK→USA, UK→Australia, UK→UAE and UK→Canada. We coordinate the export from the UK, ocean or air freight, and delivery clearance on arrival.
Can I bring household goods into the UK duty-free?
Yes — if you are moving permanent residence to the UK, personal household goods owned and used for at least 6 months can usually be imported duty- and VAT-free under HMRC’s Transfer of Residence (ToR1) scheme. We file the application before shipment so your goods clear customs without delay. Cars, alcohol and tobacco follow separate rules.
Are there restricted or prohibited items when moving to the UK?
UK Border Force restricts or prohibits food (especially meat and dairy from non-EU origin), live plants, firearms and ammunition, certain medicines, alcohol and tobacco above personal allowance, and items made from endangered species (CITES). We review your packing list before pickup so nothing causes delays at the channel or port.

How does parking and access work for UK homes?
Many UK streets — especially in London, Edinburgh and Bath — have residents-only parking, suspended-bay permits or weight/width restrictions. We apply for a temporary parking suspension or dispensation with your local council (typically 2–3 working days lead time) and plan delivery around the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) and Congestion Charge in London.
Do I need additional insurance for my move?
Standard transit insurance is included on every Flyto package. For high-value belongings, fragile antiques or overseas sea-freight routes we strongly recommend optional all-risk cover. Quoted in GBP up front — no hidden VAT, no surprises on the final invoice.
How does Flyto protect my belongings during transport?
Every Flyto van carries professional packing materials, protective wrapping, furniture blankets and corner protectors. Vehicles are fitted with live GPS tracking, internal cameras and tamper-evident seals — you receive real-time updates from departure to delivery.
Can Flyto help with settling-in support in the UK?
Yes. We coordinate your UKVI visa or pre-settled-status paperwork (for eligible nationals), register you with your local council for council tax and the electoral roll, open a UK current account at Barclays, HSBC or Lloyds, and help you sign up with a local NHS GP. Leaving the UK? We file form P85 with HMRC to confirm your non-resident tax status.
