International Removals from Croatia
Croatia has quietly become a country people move from as often as they move to. Remote workers who arrived for a season on the Adriatic eventually relocate to a new base; members of the diaspora return to Germany, Ireland or Austria after a spell back home; retirees consolidate two households into one; and families follow a job offer to the Netherlands, Sweden or further afield. All of them need the same thing: a removal that leaves a Zagreb flat, a Split townhouse or an island villa and arrives intact, on a date that was promised in advance.

How the process works
Every move starts with a survey. In most cases this is done by video call or through a guided photo inventory, which is faster than arranging an in-person visit and just as accurate when it is done properly. From that we produce a volume estimate in cubic metres and a written quotation that names the transport mode, the route, the crew scope and the delivery window.
On loading day the crew wraps and protects furniture, packs fragile items into purpose-made cartons, dismantles what needs dismantling and produces an inventory list. Goods are loaded either directly into a dedicated vehicle or into groupage units that consolidate at one of our European hubs. Delivery abroad includes unloading, placement in the room of your choice, reassembly of the items we dismantled, and removal of packing debris where the service level includes it.
Transport modes by destination
Croatia is an EU member state, part of the euro area and inside the Schengen area, and it has direct road links north into Central Europe. That makes road transport the natural default for the overwhelming majority of moves.
- Road, dedicated vehicle — for full households to Germany, Austria, Italy, France, the Benelux or the Nordics, where you want fixed loading and delivery dates.
- Road, groupage — your goods share a vehicle with other consignments. Considerably cheaper for partial loads, at the cost of a wider delivery window.
- Sea freight — for overseas destinations. Rijeka and Ploče are Croatia’s seaports; depending on sailing schedules and destination, a container may also be routed overland to an Adriatic or North Sea port with better frequency for your lane.
- Air freight — for urgent or low-volume shipments where the cost per cubic metre is justified by speed.
Coastal and island access
This is where Croatian moves differ from most of Europe, and where inexperienced planning goes wrong. Old-town addresses in Split, Dubrovnik, Trogir, Zadar and Rovinj sit behind narrow, often pedestrianised streets where a full-size removal truck simply cannot go; the answer is a smaller shuttle vehicle, a permitted loading window and sometimes a carry distance that has to be priced honestly in advance. Island addresses on Hvar, Brač, Korčula, Krk or Vis add a ferry leg, and ferry timetables — not the crew — set the schedule. Seasonal capacity in July and August is genuinely tight. We survey access before quoting so the ferry booking, the permit and the shuttle are part of the plan rather than a surprise invoice.
Cost drivers
We do not publish fixed prices, because a fixed price quoted without knowing the volume and the access is a guess. What actually moves the number is: total volume in cubic metres; distance and route; whether you take a dedicated vehicle or groupage; packing scope, from fragile-only to full pack; access at both ends, including stairs, lifts, shuttles, permits and ferries; storage; and any specialist items such as pianos, safes, art or vehicles. As a rough market guide, a one-bedroom groupage move from Zagreb to Central Europe typically runs in the low four figures in euros, while a large family house on a dedicated truck to Scandinavia sits well above that, and overseas container moves are priced in a different bracket again. Treat those as orientation only — your written quotation is the number that counts.
Customs: EU versus non-EU
Because Croatia is in the EU single market, a move from Croatia to another EU member state is customs-free: no export declaration, no import duty, no clearance delay. A move to a non-EU destination — the UK, Switzerland, Serbia, the USA, Canada, Australia, the UAE — requires export documentation, a detailed valued inventory, proof of residence transfer and destination-side clearance. Most countries offer relief from duty on used personal effects for people transferring their normal residence, subject to ownership and use conditions. Insurance and storage
Standard carrier liability under CMR is calculated by weight, not by what your belongings are worth, so it rarely reflects real value. We recommend all-risk transit cover based on a declared value inventory you complete yourself. Storage is available at our European hubs when your dates do not line up — common for people who leave Croatia before a new tenancy starts — and goods can go into store immediately after collection and be released when you are ready.
