Where Europeans Move 2026: The Net-Migration Map of European Relocation Demand
Headline findings
- Spain is Europe’s #1 net destination by a wide margin: +628 net (1,158 people moving in vs 530 leaving).
- The Mediterranean pulls hardest: Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus are all strong net gainers. 36.5% of intra-European moves go to Southern Europe.
- Northern & Western Europe are the source: the Netherlands (−431), Belgium (−363), Germany (−348) and the UK (−125) have the largest net outflows.
- A surprise gainer: Poland is a net destination (+170) — reversing the old “leaving Poland” narrative.
- Typical move: median shipment 12 m³ (average 19 m³) — many south-bound movers downsize.
Europe’s net winners: who is gaining residents
“Net” = relocation enquiries into a country minus enquiries out of it. A positive number means more people want to move there than leave.

The Mediterranean pull
Grouping destinations by region tells the story in one number: 36.5% of all intra-European relocation enquiries are for Southern Europe (Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Malta, Cyprus). Spain alone accounts for roughly a sixth of all European moves. The drivers are familiar — climate, cost of living, remote work and retirement — but the scale of the net flow from the Benelux, Germany and the UK toward the Mediterranean is the standout signal of 2026. Northern and Western Europe are, in relocation terms, net exporters of people; the south and, increasingly, parts of Central Europe (Poland) are the importers.
What this means if you are planning a move
Popular corridors book up — especially into Spain, where demand peaks in late summer and September. If you are moving on one of the busy south-bound routes, get quotes and reserve your slot 6–8 weeks ahead. Flexible dates and consolidated (shared-vehicle) transport are the two biggest levers for keeping the cost down on a high-demand corridor.
How Flyto can help

Methodology
This analysis is based on 6,472 intra-European relocation enquiries submitted to Flyto Relocation (both endpoints within Europe; non-European origins/destinations and test records excluded). Figures reflect relocation demand — where people ask to move — rather than a census of completed moves, and Flyto’s customer mix skews toward cross-border private moves. “Net” is enquiries into a country minus enquiries out of it; countries with fewer than 30 combined enquiries are omitted from the net rankings. Volume figures are customer-estimated cubic metres. Data reflects the enquiry period to 2026 and will be refreshed as the dataset grows. Reviewed by the Flyto relocation team, 2026.
