Flyto Relocation Demand Index 2026 – where Europeans are moving, from 6,836 real enquiries
Every international moving company sees a slice of European migration before the statistics offices do: people ask for a quote months before they register in the new country. The Flyto Relocation Demand Index aggregates 6,836 international household-moving enquiries received by Flyto Relocation between 1 January and 7 September 2026, across 817 origin–destination corridors and 14 languages, into one open dataset: which corridors people ask about most, what each origin country’s residents want, how much they plan to ship, and when they plan to move.
This is enquiry demand, not completed moves, and it is not a price index. It is published under a Creative Commons Attribution licence and updated quarterly. Method and limits are at the end of the page.
Headline findings
Spain is Europe’s relocation magnet. 16.8 % of all enquiries name Spain as the destination – more than the next two destinations combined – and Spain is the number-one destination from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the UK, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Italy. The Netherlands→Spain corridor alone accounts for 3 % of all European demand Flyto sees, followed by Belgium→Spain and Germany→Spain.
The season is brutal and short. 59 % of planned moves fall in July, August and September; August alone is 20.8 % of the year. Moving companies, ferries and parking permits are oversubscribed for twelve weeks and idle in February.
Most moves are small. The median enquiry is 12 m³ – a one- to two-room home – and 53 % of all enquiries are 12 m³ or less. Only 7 % are large houses. Groupage, not dedicated trucks, is the European norm.
Return migration is visible. Spain→France, Spain→UK, France→Portugal, Portugal→France and the UK→Poland corridor (the fifth-largest UK destination) all show earlier emigrants moving home or onward.

What this means if you are planning a move
Book early for July–September – six to eight weeks ahead in Europe, more for overseas. Consider groupage: at 12 m³ you share a vehicle with two or three other households on the same corridor and pay for the space you use. If your destination is Spain, France or Italy from the Benelux, Germany or the UK, you are on one of the busiest corridors in Europe, which means frequent departures and competitive prices in the off-season – and full trucks in August.

Source: quote requests submitted to Flyto Relocation through its country websites, the instant-price advisor and partner platforms, 1 January – 7 September 2026. Cleaning: test entries removed; enquiries without both an origin and a destination country excluded; domestic moves excluded; country names normalised across 14 languages; volumes above 200 m³ treated as data errors. What it measures: stated intent to move with household goods. It over-represents Northern, Western and Southern Europe and households that ship furniture, and under-represents Eastern Europe and people who move with suitcases.
