Planning an international move to Sweden? Whether you are relocating to Stockholm for a new job, settling in Gothenburg, joining family in Malmö, or starting university in Uppsala, Flyto Relocation moves your home across Europe door to door. We are a European international mover with our own hubs across Northern, Central and Southern Europe, running regular road-and-ferry services into Sweden, with one English-speaking team looking after your move from the day you pack to the day you unpack.

We are rated 4.9 out of 5 from more than 500 reviews, every consignment is fully insured, and every move is door to door. This page explains exactly how we get your belongings to Sweden, what shapes the cost, and the customs and registration steps you need to know for 2026.

How Flyto works: our hubs, our vans, vetted partners

Quick answer: Moving to Sweden from another EU country needs no customs declaration. From outside the EU, relief from duty and VAT requires that you intend to live in Sweden for at least one year. For the first year after relief is granted you may not sell, rent out, lend, give away or pawn the goods without notifying Tullverket and paying duty and VAT.

Flyto is not a broker that simply sells your job to the cheapest available carrier. We operate our own logistics hubs in Northern, Central and Southern Europe and run our own scheduled door-to-door services across the continent by road and ferry, so your move to Sweden is handled largely in-house, by people who answer the phone in English.

We are honest about our footprint: we do not have a branch office inside Sweden. Instead, our European road network delivers directly to Swedish addresses, and where a route falls outside our own coverage — for example an overseas or intercontinental leg — we use a small circle of vetted, insured partners we have worked with for years. You get the reach of a large network with the accountability of a single point of contact. That “hubs plus trusted partners” model is deliberately transparent.

Our services to Sweden

We tailor the service to the size and urgency of your move:

  • Door-to-door road and ferry. Our vans collect from your current European home and drive to Sweden via the Baltic and North Sea ferry crossings or the Öresund Bridge, delivering straight to your new front door.
  • Full loads and part loads. Moving a whole house? We can dedicate a vehicle. Moving a studio or a few rooms? Share space on a groupage run to Sweden and pay only for what you use.
  • Professional packing. Optional full or partial packing, quality materials, and careful handling of fragile, bulky and high-value items.
  • Storage. Short- or long-term secure storage at our European hubs if your Swedish home is not ready on delivery day.

We run regularly to all the main Swedish destinations, including Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Uppsala, as well as smaller towns along those routes. Tell us the postcode and we will confirm the service that fits.

What a move to Sweden costs

Every move is priced individually, so we will not quote invented figures here. The honest drivers of the price are:

  • Volume. The cubic metres you ship is the single biggest factor — a one-bedroom flat costs far less than a four-bedroom house.
  • Distance and route. Your origin country and how far it is from our nearest hub, plus the road distance into Sweden.
  • Ferry or bridge crossing. Reaching Sweden usually involves a sea crossing or the Öresund Bridge from Denmark; the routing affects both cost and transit time.
  • Access. Stairs, narrow streets, parking distance and whether a lift or extra crew is needed at either end.
  • Extras. Packing, storage, insurance value and any specialist items.

The fastest way to a firm, no-surprises price is a short inventory of what you are moving. Our advisor takes a few minutes and gives you a clear quote for your route to Sweden.

Customs and paperwork for Sweden

Customs requirements for household goods entering Sweden

Official source: Tullverket — Flytta till och från Sverige. Flyto files the declaration through its customs partner in Sweden; the paperwork above is what we need from you.

What you need at the border depends entirely on where you are moving from.

Moving from within the EU. If your goods start their journey inside the EU, they travel under free movement. There is no customs duty, no import VAT and no removal-goods declaration on your household effects — they simply cross the internal border. This is the simplest case and covers most of our Swedish moves.

Moving from the UK or another non-EU country. Since Brexit, moves from the UK are treated as non-EU imports, the same as any move from outside the EU. The good news is that Sweden offers transfer-of-residence relief on used personal belongings — known as flyttsaker — through the Swedish customs authority, Tullverket. In broad terms you can import your used household goods free of duty and VAT if you have lived outside the EU for at least 12 consecutive months, have owned and used the items for at least six months, are moving your permanent residence to Sweden, and bring the goods within the allowed window around your move. You will need a detailed inventory (packing list) and Tullverket’s declaration for relief from customs duty and tax. We prepare the documentation with you so your consignment clears cleanly.

Registering yourself in Sweden. If you will live in Sweden for 12 months or more, you register your move with the Swedish Tax Agency, Skatteverket, which decides whether you are entered in the Swedish population register and issued a personnummer (personal identity number). This number is the key to banking, healthcare and everyday life in Sweden. A useful point for EU citizens: Sweden abolished the separate EU-registration with the Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) back in 2014, so as an EU citizen you no longer file a registration there — you simply need a right of residence (working, studying, self-sufficiency or family ties) and then register with Skatteverket for population-register purposes. Non-EU citizens should confirm their own residence-permit position separately.

None of this is formal immigration or tax advice — always confirm your circumstances with Tullverket and Skatteverket.

Why choose Flyto

  • Rated 4.9 from 500+ reviews — a track record built on European moves done properly.
  • Fully insured, door to door — one contract from collection to delivery, with cover on your goods in transit.
  • English-speaking team — clear communication throughout, so nothing is lost in translation.
  • Own hubs plus vetted partners — real network reach with a single, accountable point of contact.

How long it takes

Transit time depends on your origin and the ferry or bridge routing. Moves from nearby Northern European countries can reach Sweden in a matter of days, while longer runs from Central or Southern Europe take longer, especially on shared part-load services that consolidate several customers. When you request a quote we give you a realistic collection and delivery window for your specific route, and we keep you updated as your consignment moves.

Frequently asked questions

Does Flyto have an office in Sweden?

No, and we are upfront about that. We run our own door-to-door road-and-ferry services into Sweden from our European hubs, using vetted partners only where a leg falls outside our own network. You always deal with one Flyto team.

Which Swedish cities do you deliver to?

We run regularly to Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Uppsala, plus smaller towns along those routes. Share your postcode and we will confirm the service.

Do I pay customs duty moving from the EU to Sweden?

No. Goods moving from within the EU travel under free movement — no duty, no import VAT and no removal-goods declaration on your household effects.

What about moving from the UK after Brexit?

UK moves are treated as non-EU imports, but Sweden’s transfer-of-residence relief (flyttsaker) via Tullverket usually lets you import used belongings free of duty and VAT if you meet the conditions. You will need an inventory and Tullverket’s relief declaration, which we help prepare.

Do I need a personnummer, and do EU citizens still register with Migrationsverket?

If you are staying 12 months or more you register with Skatteverket, which can issue a personnummer. EU citizens do not register with Migrationsverket — Sweden abolished that EU-registration in 2014 — they simply need a right of residence.

Can you pack for me and store my things?

Yes. We offer full or partial professional packing and short- or long-term secure storage at our European hubs if your Swedish home is not ready on delivery day.
