Customs and paperwork
Greece is part of the EU single market, and this changes everything about your paperwork depending on where you are moving from.
Moving from within the EU: your household goods move under free movement of goods. There is no customs entry, no duty and no import VAT on your used personal effects, the transport is treated much like a domestic European move.
Moving from the UK or another non-EU country: since Brexit, UK moves are non-EU and your shipment must clear Greek customs. The good news is that Greece offers generous transfer-of-residence relief administered by AADE (the Independent Authority for Public Revenue), which exempts qualifying movers from customs duty and import VAT on their used household goods. To qualify you generally need to have lived outside Greece for at least 24 consecutive months and be genuinely relocating your main residence.
The key document is a certificate of relocation (household effects certificate), issued in your name by the competent Greek consular authority in the country you are leaving. You will also need a detailed inventory of everything being shipped. Once the certificate is issued, your belongings must be cleared, in whole or in part, within a 12-month window.
