Overland transport within Europe

Transit time depends heavily on origin, method and sailing frequency. As a general guide:
- UK to mainland Spain by sea: typically around 1 to 3 weeks door-to-port, plus handling and customs clearance.
- Overland from Central/Northern Europe: often a few days to around a week depending on distance and scheduling.
- Long-haul RoRo or container to the Canary Islands: can add extra sailing time given the Atlantic leg.
These are indicative windows only. Sailing schedules, port congestion, weather and customs processing all affect real delivery dates, so treat any timeline as an estimate until your booking is confirmed.
What drives the cost to ship a car to Spain
There is no single price for car shipping to Spain because so many variables apply. The main cost drivers are:

Customs and tax: EU origin vs non-EU origin
This is the single most important thing to understand before you ship, because it changes both cost and paperwork significantly.
If your car is already in free circulation within the EU (for example moving from Germany, France or the Netherlands), there is no customs duty and no import VAT on the move itself. However, if you keep the car in Spain long-term and become resident, you will generally need to re-register (re-matricular) the vehicle onto Spanish plates, pass the Spanish ITV roadworthiness test, and you may become liable for the IEDMT (the Spanish registration/matriculation tax, based on emissions and value). Exemptions can apply, for instance on a genuine transfer of residence, subject to conditions.
If your car comes from a non-EU origin such as the United Kingdom after Brexit, the move is treated as an import: customs duty and IVA (Spanish VAT) can apply unless you qualify for a transfer-of-residence relief, which typically requires that you have owned and used the car for a qualifying period abroad and are genuinely moving your residence to Spain.
