International Removals to India (2026)
Moving your home from Europe to India is one of the longer, more paperwork-heavy relocations you can take on — but with the right coordination it runs smoothly from your front door in Europe to your new address in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore or beyond. Flyto Relocation manages the whole journey for you: sea and air freight, customs clearance, and vetted local delivery teams in India, all handled through a single English-speaking coordinator. This page explains exactly how we ship your household goods to India, what it involves, and what to expect on customs, visas and timing.
We are a European international mover with our own hubs across Northern, Central and Southern Europe. That means your packing, collection and export are handled directly by us — not subcontracted to a broker — and only the India-side leg is delivered by carefully vetted local partners we coordinate on your behalf. One point of contact, honest partnerships, no surprises.
How Flyto handles your move to India
Here is the honest version of how we work, because it is also our biggest advantage. Flyto owns and operates removal hubs throughout Europe, so your goods are professionally surveyed, packed and loaded by our own teams. From there, we ship to India by sea or air, clear customs through a licensed customs house agent, and arrange final delivery and unpacking through trusted local partners on the ground in India.
We do not pretend to run an office in India. Instead, we give you something more useful: a single Flyto coordinator who owns your move end to end, plus established relationships with reliable Indian delivery and customs partners. You never have to chase a stranger in another time zone — you talk to us, and we manage them.
For sea freight, your consignment typically arrives at one of India’s major container ports. For western and central India (Mumbai, Pune), that is usually Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru Port, JNPT) near Mumbai. For southern India (Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad), goods often route via Chennai Port. From the port of arrival, your shipment is cleared and moved inland by road to your final address, wherever in the country that is.
Our services to India
We tailor the shipping method to the size of your move and your budget:
- FCL (Full Container Load) — a dedicated 20ft or 40ft container for larger homes, faster and more secure because nothing is shared.
- LCL / groupage (Less than Container Load) — you pay only for the space you use in a shared container, ideal for flats, partial homes or smaller consignments.
- Air freight — for urgent items or smaller volumes where speed matters more than cost.
Every option is genuinely door-to-door: professional export packing at your European home, loading, freight, Indian customs clearance, inland transport and delivery to your new address. We also offer fragile and specialist packing, and short- or long-term storage at either end if your timelines don’t line up.
We deliver to homes across India, including Mumbai, Delhi / NCR (including Gurugram and Noida), Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune, as well as smaller cities via inland transport from the port of entry.
What drives the cost
We don’t publish flat prices, because an honest quote depends on your specific move. The main cost drivers for a European-to-India relocation are:
- Volume — how many cubic metres of goods you are shipping (this is the single biggest factor).
- Shipping method — FCL, LCL/groupage or air freight.
- Origin and destination — your European collection point and your Indian delivery city.
- Access — stairs, lifts, narrow streets or long carry distances at either end.
- Services — full packing, storage, insurance cover and any special handling.
- Customs duties — whether you qualify for Transfer of Residence relief (see below) and whether any items are individually dutiable.
Tell us your volume and route and we’ll give you a clear, itemised quote — no vague estimates, no hidden extras.
Customs, paperwork and visas
India’s customs rules for household goods are strict but navigable, and we clear your shipment through a licensed customs house agent (CHA) so you don’t have to deal with the port directly.
Transfer of Residence (TR). Under India’s Baggage Rules, 2016, people who have lived abroad and are genuinely transferring their residence to India can claim concessional (reduced) duty relief on used personal and household goods. As a general guide, the fullest relief applies to those who have stayed abroad for at least two years immediately before arrival, are transferring their residence, and have not availed the same TR concession in the preceding three years. Time spent in India during those two years should generally not exceed six months. Goods should be used (not new), and your shipment should arrive within the permitted window around your relocation. Certain categories of items remain dutiable even under TR. Because eligibility hinges on your exact travel history, we help you assess it before you ship.
Visas and registration. Most foreign professionals move to India on an Employment Visa, which generally requires a gross annual salary above roughly US$25,000 (with limited exceptions for certain roles). If your visa is valid for more than 180 days, you must register with the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) within 14 days of arrival. People of Indian origin may instead hold an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card, which carries near-parity rights and removes the FRRO registration requirement.
Pets. If you are bringing a pet, note that India’s Animal Quarantine and Certification Service (AQCS) rules apply, and import of dogs and cats as personal pets is generally limited to a maximum of two animals per passenger, subject to health documentation and permits. We can point you to the current requirements early so nothing is left to the last minute.

How long it takes
Sea freight from Europe to India typically takes several weeks in transit, plus time for packing at origin and customs clearance and inland delivery at destination. FCL moves are generally quicker to clear than shared LCL/groupage consignments, and air freight is much faster but suited to smaller volumes. Because customs clearance and inland distance both affect the timeline, we give you a realistic schedule for your specific route and delivery city when we quote — and we keep you updated at each milestone.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to ship household goods from Europe to India?
It depends mainly on volume, shipping method (FCL, LCL/groupage or air) and your route. We don’t quote flat prices because that would be misleading — tell us your volume and cities and we’ll give you a clear, itemised quote.
Can I claim Transfer of Residence (TR) relief on my move?
If you have lived abroad for at least two years before arriving, are genuinely transferring your residence to India, and meet the other Baggage Rules, 2016 conditions, you can usually claim concessional duty on used household goods. Some items stay dutiable, and eligibility depends on your travel history — we help you check before you ship.
Which Indian cities do you deliver to?
We deliver door-to-door across India, including Mumbai, Delhi / NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune, plus smaller cities reached by inland transport from the port of entry.

Yes. We clear your shipment through a licensed customs house agent, prepare the documentation and guide you through TR eligibility, so you never deal with the port directly.
How long does shipping to India take?
Sea freight is typically several weeks in transit, plus packing, customs clearance and inland delivery. Air freight is much faster for smaller loads. We give you a realistic timeline for your exact route and city when we quote.
