International Removals to the USA (2026)
Moving your home from Europe to the United States is one of the biggest logistics projects most families ever take on. A whole household has to be packed, shipped across the Atlantic, cleared through US Customs and delivered to your new front door, often while you are still settling into a new job and a new city. Flyto Relocation makes that move simple. We are a European international mover with our own hubs across Northern, Central and Southern Europe, and we ship complete households to the USA by sea and air freight, coordinated end-to-end by one dedicated person who stays with you from your first quote to final delivery.
Rated 4.9 from more than 500 reviews, fully insured and English-speaking throughout, Flyto handles door-to-door removals to every major US destination. Below you will find exactly how we ship your home to America, what the service includes, what drives the cost, and how the US Customs and pet-import rules work in 2026.
How Flyto Works
Flyto is honest about its model, because that is what makes the move reliable. We operate our own removal hubs in Europe, so the part of the journey we control most closely, packing your home, collecting it and consolidating it for export, is handled by our own trained crews. Your goods are then loaded into a shipping container and sailed from a major European port such as Rotterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Le Havre or a Southern European gateway.
At the US end, we work with a network of vetted local partners for customs clearance and final delivery. These are established American agents we have selected and audited, not a contractor found at the last minute, and you never manage them yourself. Flyto stays your single point of contact for the entire move: one coordinator books the collection, arranges the ocean freight, prepares the customs paperwork, briefs the destination agent and confirms your delivery date, in your own language, on both sides of the Atlantic.
Our Services to the USA
We ship to the USA door-to-door, tailored to the size of your move:
- Full container load (FCL) in a 20ft or 40ft container, for whole-home moves. Your goods travel exclusively in a container reserved for you, which is the fastest and most secure option.
- Shared container (LCL / groupage), where your consignment shares container space with other shipments heading the same way. This is the economical choice for smaller loads, a few rooms, a studio or part of a household.
- Air freight for urgent items or smaller volumes that need to arrive in days rather than weeks.
Every service is genuinely door-to-door. We include professional export packing, protective wrapping for furniture and fragile items, a full valued inventory, loading and export handling in Europe, ocean or air freight, US customs clearance through our partner, and delivery and unpacking at your new home. Secure storage is available at both ends if your dates do not line up, for example if your US housing is not ready on arrival.
Our shipments arrive through the main US entry ports, including New York/New Jersey, Savannah, Houston and Los Angeles/Long Beach, with onward delivery to cities right across the country such as New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago and Boston. Wherever you are landing in the States, we route your goods through the most efficient gateway for that destination.
What Shipping to the USA Costs
Every relocation is priced individually. Rather than quote figures that would not apply to you, here are the real drivers that shape the price of an international removal to the USA:
- Volume and container type. A full 40ft container costs more than a 20ft, but a shared LCL consignment is usually cheapest per cubic metre for smaller loads. Volume is the single biggest factor.
- Route and departure port. Your European origin, the sailing lane and the US destination port all affect freight rates and transit time.
- Access and handling. Difficult access at either end, such as upper floors without a lift or a long carry, adds handling time.
- Extras. Full-service packing, storage, insurance cover level and special items (pianos, vehicles, artwork) are priced on top of the core freight.
The most reliable way to understand your cost is a personalised quote based on an inventory of your home, which we can prepare quickly and without obligation.
Customs and Paperwork
Bringing a household into the United States is very manageable when the paperwork is done correctly, and this is exactly the part Flyto and our US partner handle for you. The key elements in 2026 are:
- CBP Form 3299, the Declaration for Free Entry of Unaccompanied Articles, is the main customs document. It identifies you as the owner and supports your claim for duty-free entry of personal and household effects that arrive separately from you.
- A supplemental declaration and a valued inventory. US Customs and Border Protection expects a detailed, itemised packing list, alongside a copy of your passport photo page and any valid US entry visa.
- ISF “10+2” filing. For ocean shipments, an Importer Security Filing must reach CBP at least 24 hours before the vessel departs for the United States. Missing or late filings carry heavy penalties, so we manage this for you.
- Used household goods are generally duty-free. Furniture, personal effects and typical furnishings you have owned and used abroad normally enter without duty.
- Your visa or immigration status. You must have valid status to enter and reside in the US, and your customs entry is tied to it.
If you are bringing pets, note the CDC rules that took effect on 1 August 2024. Every dog entering the United States must appear healthy on arrival, be at least six months old, be microchipped and travel with a completed CDC Dog Import Form receipt. Cats are exempt from these new requirements, though they must appear healthy on arrival. Pet transport is specialised, and we are happy to point you to the current CDC requirements as part of your move planning.

How Long It Takes
Ocean transit from Europe to the US East Coast typically runs around two to four weeks of sailing, with West Coast and Gulf destinations taking longer. On top of the crossing, allow time for export handling in Europe, US customs clearance on arrival and final road delivery. Realistically, a full door-to-door move to the USA by sea usually takes in the region of four to eight weeks from collection to delivery. Air freight is far faster, days rather than weeks, for smaller or urgent shipments. Your coordinator gives you a firm timeline for your specific route once your booking is confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I book a full container or a shared container to the USA?
If you are moving a whole home, a full 20ft or 40ft container (FCL) is usually best, as it is faster and travels exclusively for you. For a few rooms or a partial household, a shared container (LCL/groupage) is more economical because you only pay for the space you use. Your coordinator recommends the right option once we know your volume.
How long does shipping to the USA take?
Ocean transit is typically around two to four weeks to the East Coast, with a full door-to-door move usually taking roughly four to eight weeks including packing, clearance and delivery. Air freight is much faster for urgent items.
Do you handle US customs clearance for me?
Yes. Flyto and our vetted US partner prepare and manage the customs paperwork, including CBP Form 3299, the valued inventory and the ISF “10+2” filing. You do not deal with US Customs yourself.
Will I have to pay import duty on my belongings?
Used household goods and personal effects that you have owned and used abroad generally enter the United States duty-free when declared correctly on CBP Form 3299. New items or goods that do not qualify may be treated differently.
Which US cities and ports do you deliver to?
We ship through the main entry ports, including New York/New Jersey, Savannah, Houston and Los Angeles/Long Beach, and deliver door-to-door to cities across the country such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago and Boston.
Can I bring my pet, and can Flyto help?
Under CDC rules from 1 August 2024, dogs must be healthy, at least six months old, microchipped and travel with a CDC Dog Import Form receipt. Cats are exempt from these requirements. Pet transport is specialised, and we can guide you to the current CDC requirements while planning your move.
