International removals cost from the UK 2026 – how much does it cost to move abroad?
How much do international removals cost from the UK? It is the first question everyone asks and the one most removal companies answer least clearly. This page gives concrete 2026 price ranges by destination and volume – Europe by road, and Australia, the USA, Canada, New Zealand and the Gulf by container – explains what the price is made of, which items push the bill up after Brexit, and how to get a fixed price for your own move in two minutes.
Flyto Relocation arranges international removals from London, the Midlands, the North, Scotland, Wales and the South West to Europe and worldwide, through its own hubs in Northern, Central and Southern Europe and vetted partners overseas. One contract, one contact person and one fixed price agreed before loading.

For overseas moves, a dedicated 20 ft container (up to ~28 m³) typically costs £6,000–£11,000 to North America and £7,500–£13,000 to Australia; a 40 ft container roughly 50 % more. Dedicated containers ship on the next sailing; shared containers wait for consolidation and take two to four weeks longer. Overseas prices exclude destination quarantine inspection (Australia, New Zealand) and customs examination fees if your container is selected.
What the price is made of
Volume (m³) is the biggest factor. A studio is 5–10 m³, a two-bedroom flat 15–25 m³, a three-bedroom house 30–45 m³. Ship 30 % more than estimated and you pay for it, which is why we estimate volume in advance – by video survey if needed – and fix the price before loading.
Route and method. Europe is by road: part load (groupage – shared space with other households on the same route) or a dedicated vehicle. Part loads cost less per cubic metre; a dedicated vehicle is faster with a fixed delivery date. Overseas is by container, shared (LCL) or dedicated (20 ft/40 ft), with air freight for essentials.
Address conditions. Third floor with no lift, a street where the truck cannot park without a permit, a long carry, a Parisian courtyard or an Amsterdam canal house – these are what separate two quotes, not the miles. We ask about them in advance and include them in the fixed price.
Extras. Packing and materials, dismantling and reassembly, storage when dates do not line up, and transit insurance. Each is a separate line on the quote.
The Brexit line items
Since 2021 every move from the UK to the EU is a customs export and import. Household goods owned for six months are duty- and VAT-free under Transfer of Residence relief, but the declaration must be prepared, filed and matched to your residence paperwork – expect £150–£400 for customs brokerage on a European move, included in a good fixed price and added later in a cheap one. The same applies in reverse for moves back to the UK (ToR1). Anything new, alcohol, and goods for a second home rather than a residence move attract duty and VAT at the destination.
The hidden costs to ask about
Parking permits and suspensions in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and Barcelona: £60–£150. Channel crossing: £150–£400 per vehicle, more in summer. Lifts and hoists for furniture that will not go up the stairs: £200–£500. Storage: £15–£30 per m³ per month. Quarantine inspection in Australia and New Zealand: a few hundred pounds, more if goods are not clean. A good quote names these upfront; a cheap quote leaves them out and sends them later.
How to bring the cost down
Ship less: anything worth under £40 per cubic metre is cheaper to replace than to move. Choose a part load if your delivery date is flexible. Move outside the peak (June–September, month ends). Pack books, clothes and kitchenware yourself and leave the fragile items to the crew. Leave behind appliances that will not work at the destination (North America’s 120 V). And the one that matters most: get a fixed price before loading, so the invoice matches the quote.
How Flyto prices your move
You enter your volume and addresses, or estimate the volume room by room in our calculator. Based on route, method and address conditions you get a fixed price in two minutes. The price is confirmed before loading and does not change afterwards unless the contents of the move change. The Channel crossing, tolls, customs declaration and parking permits are included. We are also clear about what we do not have: no office in every country – outside our own hubs we work with vetted partners and remain responsible for the whole move.
Frequently asked questions
How much do international removals cost on average?
In Europe £1,400–£4,300 for a flat and £3,000–£9,500 for a house; overseas by shared container £2,800–£7,000 for a flat and £6,000–£12,500 for a house. Everything depends on volume, route and addresses.
Is a part load safe?
Yes. Each household’s goods are labelled and inventoried separately, and transit insurance covers the whole route.
Do I pay duty on my furniture when moving to Europe?
No, under Transfer of Residence relief for goods owned six months, provided you are moving your residence. Second-home moves are taxed.
Can the price go up after the quote?
Not with Flyto, unless the contents of the move change. Ask every remover whether the crossing, customs and parking are included.
What does storage cost?
Indicatively £15–£30 per cubic metre per month, plus handling in and out.
How far ahead should I book?
Europe 3–6 weeks, overseas 6–10 weeks before your preferred loading date.
