Top European Moving Companies for Spain Expats 2026

Short answer – removals from Spain to Germany, Sweden and northern Europe: a consolidated move from Spain to Germany, the Benelux or Switzerland takes 4–8 days and costs roughly €1,900–€3,900 for a one-bedroom flat; to Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Finland 6–12 days and €2,500–€5,200 – usually 10–20 % cheaper per cubic metre than the same move southbound, because trucks that delivered into Spain are returning north. Established options: Spanish specialists (Gil Stauffer, Grupo Amygo, Mudinmar, La Vascongada, Mudanzas Flippers), northern movers with Spain routes (Kuiper De Internationale Verhuizer, Mondial Movers, hasenkamp Relocation, Hertling, Alfa Mobility) and hub-based operators such as Flyto with own hubs at both ends.
What this page is, and what it is not
This page is for households leaving Spain for the north of Europe – Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. It is written by a company whose Southern European hub loads in Spain every week and whose Northern and Central European hubs deliver at the other end, and it explains what is different about a northbound move: why the transport is cheaper than the same move southbound, what the German or Swedish address does to the price, which registrations wait for you on arrival, and what a realistic budget looks like. We name competitors where it helps and say where Flyto is the wrong choice.
Why northbound is different
Trucks that delivered British, Dutch, German and Nordic households into Spain drive back north, and the market prices that backhaul capacity accordingly: outside the summer peak, a consolidated load from Málaga or Valencia to Amsterdam, Hamburg or Malmö is usually 10–20 % cheaper per cubic metre than the same volume going south. The route is the same in reverse – over La Jonquera or Irún, two days through France to the Benelux and Germany, a third day into Switzerland or Austria, a fourth to Denmark and Sweden via the Rødby–Puttgarden or Rostock–Trelleborg ferries, and Finland via Travemünde–Helsinki. Flyto’s Southern European hub consolidates northbound loads from Málaga, Alicante, Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona several times a month; dedicated vehicles run on demand for larger homes and fixed dates.
Transit, door to door: 3–5 days on a dedicated vehicle to Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium or Switzerland; 6–10 days consolidated; 7–12 days to Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Finland.
For the practical side of the move – crews, customs paperwork and a fixed price – start here: international removals to Spain.
The Spanish pickup
The Spanish end decides more of the price than the distance. Old-town flats in Málaga, Sevilla, Palma, Valencia or central Madrid have no lift and a portal a wardrobe will not pass, so an exterior lift (€150–€350) is how furniture comes down; gated urbanisations on the Costas need a shuttle vehicle for the last kilometre; and the municipal street-occupation permit for the truck takes weeks, not days – Madrid about 20 days, Valencia 15 working days, Málaga a month – with a fixed fee of roughly €45–€60 plus a charge per metre. In summer, loading starts early because of the heat. We ask about all of it before quoting and write it into the fixed price.

The northern delivery
Germany: Altbau flats on the fourth floor without a lift and a mandatory no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) applied for two to four weeks ahead in Berlin, Munich or Hamburg; registration (Anmeldung) within 14 days with the landlord’s confirmation; rentals often without a fitted kitchen – which changes what you bring. Netherlands: canal houses and portiek flats where the exterior hoist is the way in; Amsterdam reserves parking bays (TVM) at least six working days ahead at around €430 for one to two bays, The Hague issues none; BSN registration within five days. Belgium: maisons de maître with spiral stairs and the commune’s parking reservation 5–10 working days ahead; registration within eight working days. Switzerland: a customs border – form 18.44 with your permit or employment contract, ready before the truck reaches Basel – then registration within 14 days and health insurance within three months. Sweden and Norway: small lifts, carrying crews priced by floor, Stockholm’s traffic dispensation ordered a week ahead (SEK 300–800); Norway adds the flyttegods declaration at the border after twelve months abroad and 25 % VAT on anything that does not qualify. Finland and Denmark: ferry legs, winter buffers north of Stockholm, Copenhagen street permits only for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.

A dedicated vehicle adds 30–60 % and replaces the delivery window with a fixed day. Not included: storage if the northern home is not ready (common – German and Swedish tenancies start on fixed dates), and the Spanish permit and lift, which we price in advance rather than invoice afterwards.
Paperwork
Within the EU there is no customs; the move is transport plus deregistration in Spain and registration at the destination. Switzerland and Norway are outside the EU customs union: household goods owned and used at least six months enter free of duty and VAT when you transfer your residence, on form 18.44 (Switzerland) or the flyttegods declaration (Norway); new goods and alcohol beyond the allowance are taxed. In Spain: deregister from the padrón, notify the tax agency of the change of residence, and either sell the car or deregister it at the DGT (baja definitiva por traslado – tránsito comunitario) and register it in the new country. Flyto prepares the Swiss and Norwegian declarations and includes them in the fixed price.

What separates a remover from a portal
Search for movers from Spain to Germany or Sweden and the first page is mostly comparison portals – Sirelo, Cronoshare, Habitissimo – and the large brands. Portals collect quotes; they do not move anything, and the cheapest auction bid is the one most likely to add charges at the door. Ask any company: who loads in Spain and who delivers in the north (a name, not ”our network”); is the price fixed with the permit, lift and Halteverbotszone written in; who prepares the Swiss or Norwegian declaration; is the insurance on declared value; and can you look the company up and read dated reviews.
Who else runs the northbound corridors – an honest map
Spanish international specialists: Gil Stauffer, Grupo Amygo, Mudinmar, La Vascongada and Mudanzas Flippers – established, several FIDI-affiliated, strong on corporate moves. Northern specialists with Spain routes: Dutch firms such as Kuiper De Internationale Verhuizer and Mondial Movers, German AMÖ-certified movers such as hasenkamp Relocation and Hertling, and Swedish Alfa Mobility run the corridor in both directions. Global networks: AGS, Crown, Santa Fe and Sirva suit employer-paid relocations. Where Flyto fits: households leaving Spain for Germany, the Benelux, Switzerland, Austria and the Nordics who want one contract, a fixed price and a company with its own hubs at both ends – and who do not need a corporate-mobility programme. If you need a local Málaga mover for a move within the province, we are the wrong choice and will say so.
A worked example: a two-bedroom flat from Valencia to Hamburg Eimsbüttel
Volume by video survey 17 m³. Consolidated load collected in Ruzafa on a Monday (street-occupation permit obtained three weeks earlier), delivered to a third-floor Altbau flat without a lift in Eimsbüttel. The fixed price covers: collection with two crew, blankets and stretch wrap, 24 boxes of material, the Valencia permit and exterior lift, the Hamburg Halteverbotszone, a furniture lift at delivery, delivery within a three-day window seven to nine days after collection, reassembly and removal of packing material. No customs – both countries are in the EU. Indicative 2026 market cost for this profile: €2,600–€3,600. On a dedicated vehicle with a fixed delivery day: roughly €3,900–€5,000.

Seasonality
Northbound demand peaks in June–July and September; northbound capacity is cheapest in spring and autumn when inbound trucks return empty, and tightest in August when they are full both ways. In Flyto’s enquiry data 63 % of planned European moves fall in July–September. Flexible dates in May or October give the best value; a fixed August date needs six to eight weeks’ notice and a delivery window rather than a day.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a move from Spain to Germany or Sweden take?
Three to five days on a dedicated vehicle to Germany, the Benelux or Switzerland; six to ten days consolidated; seven to twelve days to Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Finland.
Is it cheaper to move north from Spain than south into it?
Usually, outside the summer peak: trucks that delivered into Spain return north, and consolidated northbound capacity is priced 10–20 % lower per cubic metre.
Do I pay customs moving from Spain to Switzerland or Norway?
Not on household goods owned six months when you transfer your residence – form 18.44 for Switzerland, the flyttegods declaration for Norway. New goods and alcohol beyond the allowance are taxed. Within the EU there is no customs.
Can you collect from a flat without a lift in Málaga and deliver to a fourth floor in Berlin?
Yes. We book the Spanish permit and lift and the Berlin Halteverbotszone and furniture lift in advance and include them in the fixed price.
When should I book?
Four to six weeks ahead outside the peak; six to eight weeks for June–September – and remember Spanish street permits alone take up to a month in Málaga.
Does Flyto move from northern Europe to Spain as well?
Yes – the same corridors run south every week from Germany, the Benelux, Switzerland and the Nordics.
