Origin storage vs destination storage
There are two natural points to store belongings in an international move, and Flyto can arrange either or both.
Origin storage takes place before your goods leave the country. Flyto operates its own hubs across Northern, Central and Southern Europe with secure storage facilities, so if your move begins in our European network your belongings can be professionally packed, inventoried and held by the same team that handles the shipment. This keeps the chain of custody tight and avoids extra handling.
Destination storage takes place after the international leg, near your new home abroad. Here we work through a network of vetted partners at the destination who receive, hold and later deliver your goods to your address once you are ready. We are transparent about this: Flyto does not maintain its own warehouse in every country, so destination storage is delivered through carefully selected local partners rather than a Flyto-owned facility.
Short-term vs long-term storage
The right solution depends mostly on how long you need it. Short-term storage typically covers days to a few weeks and bridges a gap in your move; long-term storage runs for months and suits visa waits, extended property searches or keeping possessions you are not yet ready to ship. The billing model and the type of facility often differ between the two, so it is worth deciding your likely horizon early.

How storage is measured and billed
International removal storage is almost always priced by the volume your goods occupy, measured in cubic metres (m³), for a given period of time — typically per m³ per week for short stays or per m³ per month for longer ones. This is the same volume figure that drives your shipping quote, so the two fit together naturally.
We do not publish fixed prices, because the true cost depends on several variables: the volume stored, the duration, whether climate control is required, the country and city (warehousing in a major capital costs more than in a regional hub), and any handling in and out. As a realistic market guide, self-store style space often falls in the region of a few euros per m³ per week, while managed, containerised or climate-controlled storage sits higher. Treat any figure as indicative only — your Flyto advisor will confirm a firm rate for your actual inventory and chosen location.
Security, climate control, inventory and access
Whether at origin or destination, storage should protect your belongings for as long as they are held. Look for monitored, access-controlled facilities with fire protection and appropriate insurance cover on the building. For anything sensitive to damp or temperature — timber and veneer furniture, artwork, musical instruments, electronics, documents and photographs — climate-controlled storage that manages humidity and temperature is strongly recommended, particularly for long-term stays.
A proper inventory is the backbone of safe storage. Flyto records and labels your goods so every item is accounted for going in and coming out, which also makes any later insurance claim far simpler. Because international storage is typically containerised or palletised for onward transport, day-to-day access is usually arranged by appointment rather than being a walk-in unit; if you expect to need items back regularly, tell your advisor so the layout can allow for it.

Insurance while in storage
Transit insurance and storage insurance are not the same thing, and cover can lapse in the gap between them if it is not arranged deliberately. Longer stays, higher-value inventories and climate-sensitive items all change what cover is appropriate. A note on customs and bonded storage
Where goods are held while awaiting export, or before customs clearance at the destination, they may sit in bonded or transit storage under customs control.
