Do I need a residence permit for Norway, and how do I get a national ID number?
Norway is in the EEA, so EU/EEA citizens need no permit but must register under the EU/EEA registration scheme with the police (via UDI) within three months of arrival; non-EU/EEA nationals need a residence permit. You then obtain a Norwegian national identity number (fødselsnummer) or a D-number and are entered in the National Population Register through the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten).

Do I have to declare my household goods to customs when moving to Norway?
Yes. Because Norway is outside the EU customs union, you must declare your household goods to Norwegian Customs (Tolletaten) on arrival, normally using the moving-goods declaration (form RD0030) with an inventory list. Used personal effects owned and used before the move can usually be imported free of duty and VAT if imported within one year of settling, and a professional mover’s customs agent typically handles the clearance.

How much does an international move to Norway cost and how long does it take?
There is no set price; the cost depends on volume (cubic metres), distance and access, and moving to Norway also involves customs clearance, so allow extra transit time. How do I find housing in Norway?
Most people rent on arrival; a deposit is common and, under the Tenancy Act, may be up to the equivalent of six months’ rent held in a separate deposit account, with demand strongest in Oslo, Bergen and Stavanger. How do I access healthcare after moving to Norway?
Once you are registered as resident in the National Population Register you become a member of the National Insurance Scheme and are entitled to a regular GP (fastlege); you register and manage appointments through Helsenorge, with Helfo administering reimbursements. EU citizens can use a European Health Insurance Card in the meantime.

Can I use my driving licence in Norway?
An EU/EEA driving licence is valid in Norway and can be exchanged for a Norwegian one without new tests, while licences from many other countries have limited validity and must be exchanged (sometimes with tests). Exchanges are handled by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen).
