Best International Moving Companies in Netherlands 2026

International movers for the Netherlands — removals to and from Holland
Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Eindhoven attract more international arrivals than any other Dutch cities, and just as many households leave for Spain, Portugal, Germany and further afield. Flyto arranges both directions: removals to the Netherlands from the UK, Ireland, the Nordics, Spain and Central Europe, and moves abroad from the Netherlands, through its own hubs in Northern, Central and Southern Europe and partner crews in the destination city.
Indicative 2026 market ranges (not a Flyto quote): 10–15 m³ from the UK €1,700–€3,200, from Spain €2,000–€3,800; 25–35 m³ €3,800–€7,500. Dutch city centres are the practical challenge: narrow canal-side streets, no lift in older buildings and a mandatory parking permit (ontheffing) for the moving vehicle — a good mover books it before the crew arrives. UK origins move duty-free under Transfer of Residence; EU origins need no customs at all.

What this page is, and what it is not
Most pages that promise the ”best international moving companies in the Netherlands” are a list of logos with stars. This one is written by a company that moves households into and out of the Netherlands every week, and it answers the questions that decide whether a Dutch move goes well: how the trucks actually reach Amsterdam or Rotterdam, what the address does to the price, which paperwork matters for EU and non-EU origins, what a realistic budget is, and how to tell a serious remover from a quote-matching website. We name competitors where it helps and we say where Flyto is the wrong choice.
How international moves to and from the Netherlands actually run
The Netherlands sits at the centre of Europe’s road network, which is why it is the easiest country on the continent to move to by truck – and the hardest to deliver in. From the UK the route is Calais–Dunkirk–Antwerp–Rotterdam or the Harwich–Hook of Holland ferry straight into South Holland; from Germany it is a two-hour drive from the Ruhr; from Spain, Portugal and Italy loads come north through France in two to three days; from the Nordics via Denmark and northern Germany. Flyto’s Central European hub consolidates loads on all of these corridors several times a month, and dedicated vehicles run on demand for larger homes and fixed dates. Outbound, the Netherlands is the busiest origin in Flyto’s own enquiry data after Germany, and the Netherlands→Spain corridor is the single largest route we see anywhere in Europe.
Transit, door to door: 1–3 days on a dedicated vehicle from the UK, Germany or Belgium; 3–6 days consolidated; 4–8 days from Spain or the Nordics.
The Dutch address is the price
Nothing about a Dutch move is difficult on the motorway; everything difficult happens in the last 200 metres. Amsterdam’s canal ring, Jordaan and De Pijp: streets too narrow for anything over 3.5 tonnes, no lift in a 17th-century house, and a staircase that a wardrobe will not go up – the verhuislift (exterior hoist, €150–€350) is not an optional extra there, it is how furniture gets in. Parking: Amsterdam requires a reserved-bay permit (TVM) for the moving vehicle, ordered at least six working days ahead and costing around €430 for one to two bays; Utrecht, Leiden and Haarlem have their own permits and fees, and The Hague issues none – the van may stand while actively loading. Without a reserved bay the truck stands three streets away and the crew carries. Rotterdam and Eindhoven are easier – wider streets, post-war apartment blocks with lifts – but high-rise deliveries need a lift booking with the building manager. New-build districts (IJburg, Zuidas, Leidsche Rijn) often have underground car parks too low for a truck. We ask about all of it before quoting and put the answer into the fixed price; a quote that did not ask will be corrected on the day.

A dedicated vehicle adds 30–60 % and removes the delivery window. Not included: storage if your Dutch home is not ready, and the parking exemption and hoist – which we price in advance rather than invoice afterwards.
Customs and paperwork
From another EU country there is no customs on household goods – the move is transport plus registration. From the UK, Switzerland and Norway there is: household goods you have owned for at least six months are imported duty- and VAT-free when you move your residence to the Netherlands, on a Transfer of Residence declaration to Dutch customs with proof of at least 12 months’ residence outside the EU, proof of your Dutch address and an inventory. New items, alcohol beyond the allowance and goods for a second home are taxed at 21 % VAT plus duty. Since Brexit, British citizens also need a residence permit or a highly-skilled-migrant visa to live in the Netherlands – arranged by the employer or applied for before the move.
Once in the country: register at the gemeente within five days of arrival to receive your BSN – you need it for a bank account, health insurance, an employment contract and the parking exemption. Dutch health insurance (basisverzekering) is mandatory within four months. Leaving the Netherlands: deregister from the BRP, which stops municipal taxes and triggers the export of your pension and health insurance records.
What separates a remover from a quote-matching site
Search for international movers in the Netherlands and the first page is mostly comparison sites – Sirelo, Verhuisoffertes, Trustoo, iamexpat’s directory – plus the large brands. Comparison sites are useful for collecting quotes; they do not move anything. The questions that separate a serious mover from the rest:
- Who loads and who delivers? A company that asks about your Amsterdam staircase and the gemeente’s parking rules before quoting has done the address before.
- Is the price fixed before loading? Volume-based fixed pricing with the access conditions written in. Hourly or ”estimated” quotes are where the surprise charges live.
- Customs competence for UK, Swiss and Norwegian origins – explained in one paragraph or not at all.
- Insurance by declared value, not just carrier liability per kilogram.
- Verifiable reviews on a Google Business Profile, and a company registration you can look up.

Who else moves to and from the Netherlands – an honest map
Dutch international specialists: Mondial Movers, Kuiper De Internationale Verhuizer, Holland Movers, Schmidt Global Relocations, Transpack Moving Services, Voerman International and De Haan Relocation – established, FIDI-affiliated in several cases, strong on corporate and overseas container moves. Global networks: AGS, Crown and Santa Fe have Dutch branches and suit employer-paid relocations. Expat-focused movers in Amsterdam: Atlas International Movers, BearStorm and similar cover the local and short-haul end. Where Flyto fits: households moving between the Netherlands and the UK, the Nordics, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and overseas who want one contract, a fixed price and a company that plans the Amsterdam address rather than discovering it on the day – and who do not need a corporate-mobility programme. If you need a Dutch company with a depot in Amsterdam for a move across town, we are the wrong choice and will say so.
A Netherlands move, step by step
6–8 weeks before: volume estimate (room-by-room calculator or a 15-minute video survey), fixed quote, consolidated or dedicated. 3–4 weeks before: dates confirmed, packing materials delivered, parking exemption ordered from the gemeente, hoist booked if the survey showed it, customs paperwork assembled for non-EU origins. 1 week before: packing (yours or ours), photographed inventory, declaration filed. Moving day: loading, inventory signed, goods to the Central European hub or straight onto the dedicated vehicle. Delivery: crew in the agreed window, hoist or shuttle vehicle as planned, reassembly, packing material removed, inventory signed off.
A worked example: a two-bedroom flat from Stockholm to Amsterdam Oud-West
Volume by video survey 16 m³. Consolidated load collected in Stockholm on a Monday, delivered to a third-floor flat on a narrow Oud-West street with no lift. The fixed price covers: collection with two crew, furniture blankets and stretch wrap, 22 boxes of material, the ferry leg, the Amsterdam reserved-bay permit for the delivery street, a hoist for the sofa and bed, delivery within a three-day window six days after collection, reassembly and removal of packing material. No customs – both countries are in the EU. Indicative 2026 market cost for this profile: €2,600–€3,600. On a dedicated vehicle with a fixed delivery day: roughly €3,900–€5,000.

Netherlands-specific practicalities
Appliances: 230 V, Schuko sockets – everything European works; British plugs need adapters. Bikes: you will want them; they travel wrapped, and Dutch cities are the one place a bike is worth more than a car. Cars: re-registration with the RDW within a short period, with BPM tax unless you qualify for the Transfer of Residence exemption; residents’ parking permits in Amsterdam have waiting lists of months – years in parts of the centre – which is why many arrivals sell the car. Pets: EU pet passport from an EU origin; animal health certificate within 10 days from the UK. Furniture: Dutch flats are compact and staircases are steep; a video survey usually removes a quarter of the volume once people see the floor plan.
Seasonality
Demand peaks from June to September and at month-ends, when Dutch rental contracts turn over; February and November are the quietest and cheapest. In Flyto’s enquiry data 63 % of planned European moves fall in July–September. If your dates are flexible, a consolidated move outside the peak is the best value; if you must move in August, book six to eight weeks ahead and accept a delivery window rather than a day.
Frequently asked questions
How long does an international move to the Netherlands take?
One to three days on a dedicated vehicle from the UK, Germany or Belgium; three to six days consolidated; four to eight days from Spain or the Nordics.
Do I pay import duty on my furniture?
Not from an EU origin. From the UK, Switzerland or Norway, household goods owned six months are duty- and VAT-free under Transfer of Residence relief, provided you are moving your residence and have the address paperwork.
Can you deliver to a canal house without a lift?
Yes. We book the gemeente parking exemption and the exterior hoist in advance and include them in the fixed price.
Is a consolidated (part-load) move safe?
Yes. Each household’s goods are labelled, inventoried and photographed separately, and transit insurance covers the full route.
When should I book?
Four to six weeks ahead outside the peak; six to eight weeks for June–September and month-ends.
Do you also move out of the Netherlands?
Yes – the same corridors run in reverse every week, including to Spain, the UK (with ToR1), the Nordics and overseas.
