Short answer – international moving companies Finland: the companies that verifiably run international household moves to and from Finland in 2026 are Finnish specialists Niemi Palvelut (which took over Martela’s – the former Grundell – moving business in June 2026), Victor Ek and Beweship, the members of SMPY, and the global networks Crown, Sirva, AGS and Santa Fe serving Finland through partners, plus hub-based operators such as Flyto for fixed-price moves between Finland and Sweden, Estonia, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and the UK. Choose on seven checks (survey, named crews, fixed price with assumptions, customs in the contract, declared-value insurance, registered company, written delivery window) rather than on the lowest portal bid. Indicative 2026 market range on the Sweden / Estonia ↔ Finland corridor: one-bedroom €1,400–€2,700, house €3,000–€5,800, consolidated and self-packed.

International removals to Finland — from our home market

Finland is where Flyto is headquartered, so removals to Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, Turku and Oulu — and moves abroad from Finland to Sweden, Spain, Germany, the UK, Estonia and beyond — run on our own Northern European hub with our own planning team. Arrivals come from the UK, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and Estonia; the ferry legs (Tallinn, Stockholm, Travemünde) are part of the fixed price, not an extra.

Indicative 2026 market ranges (not a Flyto quote): 10–15 m³ from Sweden €1,600–€2,900, from Germany €2,200–€3,900, from the UK €2,800–€4,800; 25–35 m³ €4,500–€9,500. Finland is in the EU, so goods from EU origins clear without customs; UK origins move duty-free under Transfer of Residence. Typical transit 2–4 days from Sweden or Estonia, 4–7 days from Germany, 6–10 days from the UK or Spain.

What this page is, and what it is not

Most pages about international moving companies for Finland are directories with stars next to each logo. This one is written by a company that loads and delivers in Finland every week, and it answers the questions that decide how a move goes: which route your goods take, what a Helsinki address does to the price, what registration and customs require, what a realistic budget is, and how to tell a remover from a quote-matching site. We name competitors where it helps and say where Flyto is the wrong choice.

How international moves to and from Finland actually run

Flyto’s Northern European hub in Finland consolidates loads several times a month, with the Helsinki–Travemünde and Turku–Stockholm ferries as the main legs; dedicated vehicles run on demand for larger homes and fixed dates. In Flyto’s own enquiry data the busiest corridors for Finland are Sweden, Estonia, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and the UK – and the same corridors run in both directions every week. Transit, door to door: 1–4 days on a dedicated vehicle from neighbouring countries, 3–8 days consolidated across Europe, 4–12 weeks by sea overseas.

The Finnish address is the price

The motorway is the easy part. In Finland: Helsinki’s inner-city courtyards a truck cannot enter and the early-1900s stairwells of Kallio and Punavuori without a lift mean carrying crews priced by floor; Tampere needs no permit for a normal move, Helsinki reserves street space with tow-away signs placed at least 48 hours ahead under a city decision, and Turku issues a temporary-arrangement permit. We ask about all of it before quoting and write the answer into the fixed price; a quote that did not ask will be corrected on the day.

What a move to or from Finland costs

Indicative 2026 market ranges, door to door, consolidated (not a Flyto price list – every move is priced on volume, route and access):

Sweden / Estonia ↔ Finland €1,400–€2,700 €3,000–€5,800 1–4 days
Norway / Denmark ↔ Finland €1,900–€3,600 €4,000–€7,800 3–7 days
Germany / Netherlands / Belgium ↔ Finland €2,200–€4,000 €4,600–€8,600 4–8 days
UK / Ireland ↔ Finland €2,700–€4,900 €5,600–€10,000 5–10 days

Overseas in a shared container: roughly €3,500–€8,000 for a one-bedroom flat and €7,000–€14,000 for a family home, 4–12 weeks. A dedicated vehicle adds 30–60 % and replaces the delivery window with a fixed day. Not included: storage if your home is not ready, and permits and lifts, which we price in advance rather than invoice afterwards.

Flyto quote data 2026: moves from Finland

The two tables show what Flyto’s customers were actually quoted in 2026, by corridor and volume band: median and typical range (25th–75th percentile), including VAT, rounded to the nearest €50; only bands with at least three quotes are shown. UK rows carry an approximate sterling figure at 1 € ≈ £0.85. Every move is priced on volume, addresses, dates and access – this is what real customers were quoted, not a price list.

Sweden is the cheapest corridor out of Finland; Denmark, Norway and Germany sit €700–€1,000 above it for a one-bedroom load, Switzerland, Austria and the UK a further €850–€2,000, because the sea crossing and, where needed, the customs handling are inside the price. Spain’s 25–40 m³ band (20 quotes) has a Gold median of €9,450, below the 15–25 m³ figure that rests on five quotes pulled up by fixed-date jobs – read the larger sample as the guide. The Silver–Gold gap is typically €400–€800: the second mover who carries.

For a one-bedroom load the inbound Gold median sits €200–€600 below the outbound figure on the same corridor: the truck that delivers to Helsinki loads for Málaga or Düsseldorf on the way back.

What Silver, Gold and Platinum include

Transport on agreed dates and CMR carrier liability are the same in all; the packages differ in who packs and carries. Silver: one mover loads and unloads with you. Gold: two movers (three above 30 m³) load, carry and unload into the agreed rooms. In both you pack the boxes; protection, assembly and materials are add-ons. Platinum: Gold plus full packing into Flyto boxes, all materials, furniture protection, disassembly and reassembly, unpacking onto surfaces and removal of empty boxes. Pallet freight (about 1–6 m³, you pack and palletise, 5–10-day window) is the lowest price for a few boxes.

What moves the price

  • Parking in Helsinki. A truck that needs parked cars cleared works under the city’s removal-notice system: the yellow siirtokehotus sign is placed only under a decision from the Urban Environment Division, at least 48 hours before any vehicle is moved, and towing is ordered from Stara by fixed deadlines – for a Monday move by 10:00 the previous Friday; the customer pays for cars that were there before the sign went up (City of Helsinki – use of the removal-notice sign, 15.5.2026; Helsinki – temporary traffic arrangements).
  • Parking in Espoo and Tampere. Espoo rents street space through its eLupa e-service, applied for at least one week ahead, with a fee by area and maintenance class (City of Espoo – permit to use a public area). Tampere needs a street permit through Lupapiste only when part of a street or parking area must be closed, with two to three weeks’ notice (City of Tampere – street permits, Tampere – licences, permits and plans). Flyto applies on request at actual cost plus €50 handling (typically around €200 per address); an external lift the same way (around €600 per address).
  • Ferries. Finland is an island for a lorry. To Germany and beyond the vehicle takes Finnlines’ daily Helsinki–Travemünde sailing, 15:00 from Helsinki, about 30 hours (Finnlines – Helsinki–Travemünde). To Estonia it is the two-hour Helsinki–Tallinn shuttle: Tallink and Eckerö Line from West Harbour Terminal 2, Viking XPRS from Katajanokka in about two and a half hours (Tallink, Eckerö Line, Viking Line Cargo, Port of Helsinki – Katajanokka). The crossing is in Flyto’s fixed price.
  • Dates, customs, storage. June–September and month-ends cost most; under two weeks’ notice limits the choice to vehicles already in the area. Flyto runs weekly departures from Finland to the Costa del Sol, so a flexible customer takes the next consolidated load rather than a dedicated truck. UK, Norway and Switzerland legs carry the customs handling in the price, not the authorities’ own duties or VAT. Storage is €100 per month per 6 m³ container plus €15 per m³ handling; extra work €85 per hour per mover.

Customs and paperwork

From another EU country there is no customs on household goods – the move is transport plus registration. Otherwise, from the UK, Switzerland and Norway household goods owned six months enter free of duty and VAT under Transfer of Residence relief after twelve months outside the EU; 25.5 % VAT otherwise. Once in the country, the DVV notification of a move (within a week), Kela and the tax administration informed, and registration in the population system. Leaving Finland: the DVV notification of a move abroad, Kela told (residence-based social security ends when the move is permanent, over six months), the tax administration informed, and the car driven out on Finnish plates and removed from the register once registered abroad.

Customs and paperwork: the rules with sources

Inside the EU Finnish Customs is explicit: removal goods are not declared and pay no VAT or duty – except on Åland, which has its own declarations (Finnish Customs – I am moving to Finland). Outside the EU four sets of rules apply; Flyto prepares the paperwork with you before loading:

  • Into Finland – Tulli removal-goods relief. Duty- and VAT-free if your normal residence was outside the EU for a continuous 12 months, the goods were in your household use for at least six months and you declare them within 12 months of the move; for 12 months afterwards nothing may be sold, lent or hired out. Alcohol, tobacco, commercial vehicles and professional equipment other than portable tools are excluded. Goods arriving with a carrier are declared in Customs’ Import Declaration Service or by the forwarder; at a customs office you hand in form 45 with a list of the goods, a passport copy and proof of residence abroad (Finnish Customs – how to declare removal goods). Step by step: Finland customs guide for household goods.
  • Finland → UK – HMRC ToR1. 12 consecutive months outside the UK, six months’ possession, import within 12 months of arrival, no lending or transfer for 12 months; apply online before shipping and the reference number goes on the import declaration (GOV.UK – transfer of residence, ToR1 application).
  • Finland → Switzerland – form 18.44. Duty-free on transfer of domicile for goods used personally for at least six months, presented at a customs office with the employment contract, lease or Finnish deregistration; sending the file two working days ahead speeds clearance (BAZG – moving to Switzerland).
  • Finland → Norway – declaration RD-0030. Duty- and VAT-free after at least one continuous year abroad, for goods you owned and used there, imported within one year of the move on a signed declaration; vehicles, food, alcohol and tobacco are outside the relief (Tolletaten – household goods, RD-0030).

Arriving in Finland: DVV registration, personal identity code, Kela, tax card, driving licence, car

DVV. File the notification of move at the earliest one month before and at the latest one week after the move, online through the DVV–Posti service or on paper at Posti; a stay of at least a year is reported as permanent and gives a municipality of residence (DVV – moving to Finland, DVV – a foreigner’s move). Foreigners request the personal identity code (henkilötunnus) online, then visit DVV in person within a month with passport and proof of legal residence; it is free and takes two to four weeks (DVV – registration of a foreigner). International House Helsinki (Ratapihantie 7) has DVV, Migri, Kela and the Tax Administration under one roof (International House Helsinki).

Kela and tax card. Kela coverage depends on whether the move counts as permanent – a residence permit of at least a year, family reasons or a permanent or two-year work contract usually do – and workers qualify from €800.02 a month; apply in OmaKela (Kela – moving to Finland, Kela – benefits when you move). Over six months in Finland you are taxed as a resident; the tax card needs the identity code and takes one to three working days, stays of six months or less use form 5057 (Vero – arriving in Finland, Vero – form 5057). Leaving instead: bank account abroad, pension abroad.

Driving licence and car. An EU or EEA licence is valid until it expires, a Vienna or Geneva Convention licence for two years after settling, other recognised licences for one year; exchange through Ajovarma takes three to four months (Traficom – foreign driving licence, Traficom – exchanging a licence). Finland abolished the car-tax reduction for removal vehicles in 2015: every imported car pays car tax on the Tax Administration’s valuation after a declaration of use in MyTax, a car tax return within five days and a registration inspection (Vero – importing a vehicle, Traficom – importing a vehicle).

What separates a remover from a quote-matching site

Search for movers in Finland and the first page is mostly comparison portals – Sirelo and domestic quote-request services – plus the large brands. Portals collect quotes; they do not move anything, and the cheapest auction bid is the one most likely to add charges at the door. The questions that separate a serious remover:

  • Who loads and who delivers? A company that asks about your staircase and the parking rules before quoting has done the address before.
  • Is the price fixed before loading? Volume-based fixed pricing with the access conditions written in. Hourly or ”estimated” quotes are where the surprises live.
  • Customs competence for UK, Swiss and Norwegian legs – explained in a paragraph, not a footnote.
  • Insurance by declared value, not only carrier liability per kilogram.
  • Verifiable reviews on a Google Business Profile and a company registration you can look up.

Who else moves to and from Finland – an honest map

Finnish specialists Niemi Palvelut (which took over Martela’s – the former Grundell – moving business in June 2026), Victor Ek and Beweship, the members of SMPY, and the global networks Crown, Sirva, AGS and Santa Fe serving Finland through partners. The global networks suit employer-paid relocations; the specialists are strong on overseas containers. Where Flyto fits: households moving between Finland and Sweden, Estonia, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and the UK who want one contract, a fixed price and a company that plans the Helsinki address rather than discovering it on the day – and who do not need a corporate-mobility programme. If you need a Helsinki company with a depot for a move across town, we are the wrong choice and will say so.

A Finland move, step by step

6–8 weeks before: volume estimate (room-by-room calculator or a 15-minute video survey), fixed quote, consolidated or dedicated. 3–4 weeks before: dates confirmed, packing materials delivered, permits applied for, lift booked if the survey showed it, customs paperwork assembled for non-EU legs. 1 week before: packing (yours or ours), photographed inventory, declaration filed. Moving day: loading, inventory signed, goods to the hub or straight onto the dedicated vehicle. Delivery: crew in the agreed window, lift or shuttle as planned, reassembly, packing material removed, inventory signed off.

Seasonality

Demand peaks from June to September and at month-ends; February and November are the quietest and cheapest. In Flyto’s enquiry data 63 % of planned European moves fall in July–September. If your dates are flexible, a consolidated move outside the peak is the best value; if you must move in August, book six to eight weeks ahead and accept a delivery window rather than a day.

How Flyto handles this corridor

Helsinki is Flyto’s head office and its Northern Europe hub; the Central Europe hub near Düsseldorf and the Southern Europe hub in Málaga sit at the far ends of the two main routes, with partner depots in every major European city. The sequence is the same from Espoo to Edinburgh as from Stockholm to Tampere: a door-to-door price in Silver, Gold and Platinum from the price calculator in about two minutes; a video survey where the volume is in doubt, with floor, lift and parking written into the quote; one contract, one contact person, a fixed price agreed before loading; customs forms assembled before the goods leave; a signed inventory, insured door to door; delivery on agreed dates or in a 5–10-day window, weekly to the Costa del Sol. Home search, registration paperwork and settling-in are available as an add-on through vetted partners; more in the Finland guides.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an international move to Finland take?

One to four days on a dedicated vehicle from neighbouring countries; three to eight days consolidated across Europe; four to twelve weeks by sea overseas.

Do I pay import duty on my furniture?

Not from an EU origin. From the UK, Switzerland and Norway household goods owned six months enter free of duty and VAT under Transfer of Residence relief after twelve months outside the EU; 25.5 % VAT otherwise.

Can you deliver to a flat without a lift in Helsinki?

Yes. We plan the parking, the lift and the carrying crew in advance and include them in the fixed price.

Is a consolidated (part-load) move safe?

Yes. Each household’s goods are labelled, inventoried and photographed separately, and transit insurance covers the full route.

When should I book?

Four to six weeks ahead outside the peak; six to eight weeks for June–September and month-ends.

Do you also move out of Finland?

Yes – the same corridors run in reverse every week, including to the UK (with ToR1), Switzerland (form 18.44), Norway and overseas.

Does the mover need a parking permit in Helsinki?

Only if the truck must stand where parking is not allowed or parked cars must be cleared. Then the city’s removal-notice sign is placed under a decision from the Urban Environment Division at least 48 hours before the move and towing is ordered from Stara by fixed deadlines. Flyto applies on request at actual cost plus €50 handling.

What do I need to bring household goods into Finland from outside the EU?

Proof of 12 continuous months’ residence outside the EU, goods used for at least six months, and a declaration within 12 months of the move – in Customs’ Import Declaration Service, or form 45 at a customs office with a list of the goods, a passport copy and an employment certificate. Nothing may be sold or lent for 12 months. From an EU country there is no declaration at all.

In what order do I register when I arrive in Finland?

Notification of move to DVV within one week of arriving; the personal identity code with an in-person DVV visit within a month of the online form; then a bank account, the Kela assessment in OmaKela and the tax card, which takes one to three working days. An EU licence stays valid until it expires.

What does Flyto actually charge from Finland to Spain or Germany?

In Flyto’s 2026 quotes a 5–15 m³ one-bedroom load had a Gold median of €7,850 to Spain and €4,050 to Germany including VAT; a 25–40 m³ family home €9,450 to Spain and €5,450 to Germany. Silver is €350–€900 less, Platinum with full packing €500–€2,300 more. These are what customers were quoted, not a price list.

Can I bring my car to Finland tax-free as removal goods?

No. The car-tax reduction for removal vehicles was abolished in 2015, so every imported car pays Finnish car tax on the Tax Administration’s valuation after a declaration of use, a car tax return within five days and a registration inspection. From outside the EU the removal-goods relief can still remove customs duty and VAT on the car, but never the car tax.
