Moving volume calculator — how many m³ is your move?
Tick what is coming, room by room. The calculator adds up the typical volume of 100 household items, counts your boxes and tells you what size of van or container you need — then gives you an instant price for that volume.

| Small truck (7.5 t) | 30 m³ |

| Truck (12–18 t) | 50 m³ |
| 40-foot container | 67 m³ |
How to use the calculator
- Open each room and tap + on everything that is coming. Volumes are typical values — a 3-seat sofa is about 2.5 m³, a double bed 2 m³, a wardrobe 1.5 m³.
- Count your boxes, or let the calculator suggest a number from your bedrooms. One shelf metre of books is about one medium box.
- Check the total against the typical home sizes. If you are well below, open the hidden areas: garage, basement, attic and the inside of your wardrobes.
- Tap "Get an instant price" — your volume is carried into the Flyto quote so you only add the route and date.
Why volume decides your moving price
Every international mover prices by cubic metres: the space your belongings take in a van, truck or container. Weight only matters for air freight and for a few very heavy items. Get the volume right and the price you are quoted is the price you pay.
This calculator uses the open furniture catalogue behind Flyto's video survey — the same 100 items and volumes our survey team uses on every call. The ranges are typical European household sizes; a very large corner sofa or an American fridge will be above the figure shown, and you can add those under special items.
The most common mistake is not the furniture but the boxes and the hidden areas. Most people under-count boxes by 30–50 % and forget the garage, basement and attic. The calculator's box suggestion and the typical-size check catch both.
FAQ
How many cubic metres is a 2-bedroom flat?
Typically 18–28 m³ with normal furniture and 40–60 boxes. A sparsely furnished flat can be 15 m³, a full one with a home office and garage contents 30 m³ or more.
How do I convert cubic metres to a van or container?
A standard 3.5-tonne van holds about 12 m³, a 7.5-tonne truck about 30 m³, a 20-foot container 33 m³ and a 40-foot container 67 m³. Movers price on the space you use, so a 20 m³ move in a 40-foot container is priced as groupage (LCL), not a full container.
How many moving boxes do I need?
Plan 8–12 medium boxes per bedroom, 15–25 for a kitchen and 5–10 for a living room, plus wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes. Ten medium boxes are about 0.6 m³.
Is the volume in this calculator what I will be charged for?
It is a very good estimate — the same catalogue our surveyors use. For a fixed price we confirm the volume in a free 15-minute video survey, so there are no surprises on moving day.
Can I send this list to Flyto?
Yes. Tap "Copy my list" and paste it into your quote request, email or the Flyto video survey.
